September 2005
We just received our first report from school and we were delighted to
learn that Alex Daniel is "making great strides in his spelling and
reading." Mr. Todd also reports that Alex is a lot less hesitant to
actively participate in classroom activities and discussions. We are
excited to see Alex make such academic progress. Alex is also beginning
to make friends at school and we no longer have to coax him to get out of
bed every morning. Alex continues to enjoy surfing and skateboarding.
He will likely try out for the school Surfing team later this month. We
are so happy to see Alex become more comfortable with his new family and
his new life.

August 2005
Alex Daniel has had a lot of fun participating in various summer camp
programs. He is looking forward to spending the last two weeks of summer
vacation at Surf Camp where he hopes to be able to improve his surfing skills
enough to join the Sowers Middle School Surf Team in September.
Alex Daniel is also looking forward to having his biological younger brother,
Akram--12, join the family. Akram and Alex Daniel decided that they wanted to
be reunited and Akram asked to be adopted. We don't know how long the adoption
process will take given the climate, at the moment, for international
adoptions in Russia. We are doing our part to facilitate this adoption as
quickly and smoothly as possible.

June 2005
Well its been a month since Alex Daniel has been home. He has experienced a
lot in such a short period of time. Alex has been to Disneyland, Universal
Studios, Knott's Berry Farm and Wild Rivers. He has learned how to ride a
skate board and order at McDonalds in English! Alex Daniel is really showing
us his courage as he willing tries new activities, American foods and speaking
English. This transition would not be easy for anyone, but imagine being a
teenager and leaving everything you know behind. Alex Daniel has had to deal
with a new family, a new school, new clothes, a new language and a new
culture.
Through all of this Alex Daniel has almost
always had a wonderful smile on his face. We are proud to call Alex Daniel our
son. He has come a long way in a short period of time and we look forward to
sharing more and more adventures with him in the future.

May 2005
Alex Daniel (13)
came home from Moscow, Russia to California on May 28, 2005. Ann met Alex
Daniel last July as he and Mathew were roommates at Orphanage 19.
Mathew
considered Alex Daniel his "best friend" and asked if we would considering
asking Alex Daniel if he wanted to be adopted into our family too. After much
consideration, Alex Daniel said "yes" so we moved forward with our adoption
plans. Alex Daniel left behind several siblings in Moscow who he promised to
keep in contact with on a regular basis.
Alex Daniel
is a quiet and reserved teenager who is quite an accomplished artist,
especially with watercolors. Alex Daniel also has an ear for music and is a
self-taught pianist. He doesn't like to play for an audience but we hope in
the future he may consider piano lessons.
Right now
Alex Daniel is getting used to Southern California and the surf culture. By
the end of summer he hopes to be surfing!
