September 2005
David had an excellent summer. He did better than expected participating in his
various camp programs. While David did require additional staff help and general
"eyes-on" supervision, he responded well to that level of support. Many of the
camp staff who remember David from last year mentioned how David has really
matured and continues to show progress with self-regulation of his behaviors.
David is participating on a Special Olympics roller skating team and will have
his first tournament in mid-September. David is also taking twice weekly
skateboard riding lessons after school. David hopes to take surfing lessons
before next summer. David is a very good athlete with a "no fear" attitude. We
hope to channel his extra energy into individual and non-competitive sports.

June
2005 David (almost 7) got through his kindergarten program with some impulse
control and behavioral challenges throughout the year. He had two school
changes and three classroom changes during the 2004-2005 school year but
has seemed to settle in to his new Special Day class at Perry Elementary
School. David likes school but is easily over-stimulated. He also has a
difficult time staying focused and is often frustrated. Based on our
experiences this year, we are working hard with the staff at Perry
Elementary School to develop an educational program that will work well
for David. We look forward to helping David have a successful 2005-2006
school.
During the summer, David will participate in some summer camps. We
selected camps where David would have lots of space to burn off some of
his excess energy. David will spend several weeks at
Camp James.
He will also attend
Science
Adventures Camp held at a local park and Indian Summer Camp
at
Mission San Juan Capistrano . David's good
teenage friend Clarinda will be helping support David during his camp
participation so that he has the maximum opportunity for success. Of
course in his free time we know we can find David riding his bicycle or
doing tricks on his skateboard.

September 2004 David
(6) enjoyed his summer 2004 and is ready to start school next week. During the summer
David was selected to act in a few student films. He did very well and even had
to learn a few lines. Maybe we have another buddy young actor in the family.
David also participated in several summer camps. He especially enjoyed Camp
James where the high activity level keep David busy and out of trouble! David
will resume swimming lessons in September and is also looking forward to
up-coming rehearsals for MYART Children's Theater's production of "Fiddler on
the Roof." SEPTEMBER 2004
AUGUST
2004: David graduated from kindergarten this June. He will be a
fully-included first grade student at Moffett Elementary School in the fall. We
just can't believe how grown-up David is becoming since joining our family at 18
months old. Just this year David started to read and to write. David's language
skills are improving and he is developing friendships at school. David is also
very athletic and
can already ride a two-wheeled bicycle and a scooter. For a
little boy with a traumatic brain injury (who entered the foster care system,
both deaf and blind, at eight months old due to severe child abuse) this
progress is BIG news.
FEBRUARY
2004: David is an extremely active little boy. We have tried to channel his
energy into non-competitive sports. Currently David participates in Tae Kwon Do.
He recently tested for and received his Orange Belt. David says “I want to get
a Black belt when I am taller!” Additionally, David is involved with dance and
swimming lessons. David is also an actor. He participates in children's theater
and has appeared in several student films. Acting has provided an excellent
outlet for self-expression. David has also increased his ability to follow
individual and group directions. David has sharpened his memory skills through
the repetition of play rehearsals. You can see how proud David is of himself
every time he gets on stage. Of course, you can imagine how proud we are of
David as well!
