October 2005
Justin is happy to be back in school. He still is only able to attend regular
school three days a week due to his dialysis schedule. Since the school year
started Justin has already had to spend a total of almost three weeks in the
hospital due to various infections. It is difficult to keep Justin healthy
despite our best efforts. We are hopeful that Justin will soon receive the
kidney he so desperately needs so that he can return to his regular life.
During the summer, Justin was able to attend a few days, here and there, of
summer camp. Justin enjoyed having the opportunity to get out and play with the
other kids. Justin especially enjoyed participating in the Camp James program.
He liked all of the activities and the enthusiasm of the camp counselors!
June 2005
Justin still has his dialysis routine of three days a week. He is on the waiting
list for a donor kidney with Loma Linda Hospital. Children generally wait for a
donor kidney about 18 months so we hope that Justin will not have to wait much
longer. Although Justin hates his special low sodium/low potassium diet and the
long hours at dialysis he continues to be real trooper. Justin enjoys the three
days a week (non-dialysis days) he goes to Perry School. Justin plans on
attending summer school and then returning to Perry Elementary School in the
fall as a fully-included third grader.
Because Justin's energy level has diminished since he got sick, he does not
participate in as many community activities as he once did. After school
Justin's very favorite activity is to "help" in the office. Justin likes running
errands throughout the house and shredding papers. Justin also enjoys using the
computer, playing video games, and helping in the kitchen. On Sundays Justin
looks forward to attending church and going to plays and movies.

September 2004
Justin
(9) continues to struggle with his end stage renal disease. He receives hemo-dialysis
three times a week. Because Justin's health was not that stable this year,
Justin receives home-teaching through our local school district. Starting in
September, Justin will return to public school three days a week where he will
be a second grade student. Justin is looking forward to going back to school. He
missed his friends and all of the social activities that elementary school
provides. On dialysis school days (Tuesdays and Thursdays) a home teacher will
work with Justin for several hours so that he can keep up with his classmates.
Due
to Justin's health he was unable to attend any camps this summer. He actually
spent quite a bit of time in the hospital due to infections and other medical
complications. Justin is on the kidney transplant list and we are hopeful that
Justin
will eventually get a new kidney allowing him a more flexible lifestyle. In his
free time Justin continues to LOVE going to Chuck-E-Cheese' Pizza Parlor. More
than the pizza, Justin really enjoys the arcade games and the rides. We hope, as
the year moves on, that Justin will have an opportunity to spend more time at
Chuck-E-Cheese and less time at the hospital. Thank you for keeping Justin in
your thoughts and prayers.
