June 2005
Phillip has officially graduated from elementary school and will be starting
middle school in the fall of 2005. Phillip had a fantastic school year and made
outstanding progress in his academic skills. Phillip is really ready both
academically and emotionally for 6th grade next year. We are so proud of
Phillip's tenacity and his progress.

Pali Adventures Camp Summer 2005

Phillip is ready for summer. He is enrolled in several camp program that he is
pretty exited about. At
Pali Adventures Camp Phillip will spend two weeks
learning how to ride dirt bikes and to water ski. Phillip is such a natural
athlete he should master these sports with no problems. Phillip is also planning
to participate in another four weeks of California
Junior Lifeguard Camp , two weeks
of Surf Camp, and another week of Sports Camp. He loved all three of these
programs last year.
Phillip will be a big
support for Val who will be a first time participant at these three camps.
Finally Phillip will be participating in Skateboard Camp at the Los Angeles
Science Center. This camp is about building a skateboard more than riding a
skateboard. Although Phillip loves to ride his skateboard and is learning new
tricks all of the time, building his own skateboard is a very exciting prospect
as well.

Vasiliy
“Phillip” (11) will be a fifth grade student at Peterson Elementary
School in September. He is a fully-included student with instructional aide
support. During the previous school year Phillip showed great improvement in his
reading and writing skills. Academics have continued to be struggle for Phillip
and he is easily frustrated and discouraged. We have hired a private tutor to
work with Phillip several times a week after school. This extra instructional
help has truly benefited Phillip's academic skills as well as his
self-confidence.
After
school Phillip is involved in all kinds of sports Phillip is a natural
athlete. He plays league soccer and basketball. In the fall Phillip plans to
start taking Tae Kwon Do lessons. This summer Phillip learned how to surf while
participating in the Sunset Beach Junior Lifeguard and Surfing Lesson program.
After hanging out at the beach all summer, Phillip looks like a
real California surfer with long blonde hair and a golden sun tan! Its hard to
imagine that Phillip is the same skinny frail little boy who joined our family
from Siberia, Russia in November of 2001.
Phillip is also quite a talented artist. He has participated in art instruction
through an after school art program. Phillip has even had some of his art
published.
This
summer Phillip attended Sports Camp and Camp James. Phillip did an excellent job
at both camps this year. Phillip is also attended Camp Bravo with Nikolai and
Alin. This will be Phillip's first time at acting camp. Although Phillip needs
lots of encouragement and support to follow the rules and maintain appropriate
behavior at camp, many of the counselors commented on how much Phillip had
matured since they had last seen him.
In
his free time Phillip likes go to the car races with his dad. He also likes to
hang out at Grandma Sue’s house and bake cookies. He also likes to help Grandpa
Jim build bikes in the garage!.
