Ivan's photo in the OC Register July 30, 2005
June 2005:
Ivan recently celebrated his 13th birthday with a big party at Soup Plantation.
Even though mom, Grandma Sue, and Mathew were in Russia and couldn't attend,
Dad, all of the rest of his brothers and even Grandpa Jim were there to party
with the brand new teenager! Ivan received many gifts and good wishes.
Ivan's favorite present
of all was a gift certificate to fly a glider! Click here to
read about his glider adventure and see some great photos!
Ivan says he is ready for summer. Last year Ivan joined our family at the end of
summer so he really didn't get a chance to experience summer camp. This year he
will have a whole summer of camp experiences. Ivan will be attending a
camp at
Mission San Juan Capistrano where he will take a two-week course in
ceramics. Ivan will also be attending
Junk Yard Camp at the California Science Center. At this camp Ivan will
spend a day at the junk yard collecting items in which to build a contraption of
his choice over the last few days of camp. This is a "dream camp" for Ivan the
builder! Ivan will also be attending a week long camp at
SeaWorld San Diego were he will work with marine
mammals and learn about the job opportunities in marine biology. Should be a
great summer for Ivan. We will be sure to take lots of pictures.

December 2004

Ivan, Robert (one of our helpers) &
Michael

July 2004:
Ivan (12) will be joining our family in California on August 13th, 2004. He was adopted
in Moscow on July 19th, 2004. We had been working on bringing Ivan home for over
a year. Due to his disability of spina bifida, Ivan had very few chances to live
a productive life in Russia. Prior to our beginning this adoption process, Ivan
spent most of his life living in hospitals and orphanages for children with
severe handicaps. Currently Ivan is in foster care in Moscow. During the past
have been corresponding with Ivan through e-mail. He is as anxious to come home
as we are to getting him home.
